Summary of the House Committee Version of the Bill

SB 1216 -- TRAVEL CLUBS

SPONSOR: Goodman (Wasson)

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Special
Committee on General Laws by a vote of 5 to 0.

Currently, if an individual wants to rescind a transaction with a
travel club, he or she must deliver to the club a written
statement by certified mail with a return receipt request within
three business days. A person who exercises his or her right of
rescission will receive a full refund, minus the amount of
services actually used. This bill allows the person to send the
written statement by first class mail postmarked within three
business days and the full amount will be refunded, minus the
actual and reasonable cost of processing the refund, including
any credit card fees.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2007, FY 2008, and
FY 2009.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill makes clarifying
changes to last year's legislation.

Testifying for the bill were Senator Goodman; American Council of
Travel; and Office of the Attorney General.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
